Dr. Marci Guthrie’s career in dentistry began long before she became a practice owner. She started as a dental assistant, giving her an early look at both the clinical and personal sides of dental care. She later earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry and completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at VCU.
After residency, Dr. Guthrie spent four years practicing as an associate general dentist before purchasing her own practice in 2008. She has continued caring for patients as a practice owner ever since.
Continuing education has remained an important part of her career. Dr. Guthrie has completed courses through The Dawson Academy and Spears Institute and takes part in local monthly study clubs to continue developing her clinical knowledge. She has also earned a fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Guthrie’s involvement extends beyond the dental office. She regularly appears on CBS Channel 6‘s Virginia This Morning, where she shares information about dental technology, oral health and developments in dentistry.
She also serves as chairwoman of the Richmond Dental Society‘s annual Give Kids a Smile program. Through Mission of Mercy projects and dental mission trips to Jamaica and Belize, she has helped provide dental treatment to people who otherwise may not have access to care.
She is an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health, the American Academy of General Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association and the Richmond Dental Society.
