When Dr. Marci Guthrie decided to pursue her dream of becoming a high quality dental provider, she also made the decision to never stop pursuing her education. Continuing education and training is a priority for James River Family Dentistry and for herself. Dr. Guthrie strives to keep her training relevant to the changing technology in her field so that she can bring her expertise to her patients in order to make their experience the best it can be.
Dr. Guthrie’s early education began at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, where she completed a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. She then completed a residency at Virginia Commonwealth University and worked as an associate general dentist for 4 years before making the decision to purchase her own practice, the James River Family Dentistry.
Dr. Guthrie has continued to educate herself by completing courses at The Dawson Academy and the Spears Institute. She has been inducted as a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, an organization that recognizes individuals with the highest ethical and professional standards. Dr. Guthrie has also recently passed her Fellowship exam at the Academy of General Dentistry and hope to walk sometime next year for her Fellowship award. All of these continuing education academies are known to support dental health providers in their desire to maintain the fundamentals while also learning new skills and techniques for their patients. Dr. Guthrie is proud to be a part of these institutions and brings the philosophies of these institutions to her practice on a daily basis.
Dr. Guthrie is recognized as a leader in the dental field and as such has been inducted into the Board of Directors for the Richmond Dental Society, where she promotes the “Give Kids a Smile” program to provide free dental care to underprivileged area children. She also takes international mission trips to provide dental care to those who are unable to receive dental care in their home countries. Her education and specialized experience are paramount in allowing her to work with organizations that give back to the community.
Dr. Marci Guthrie truly believes that by educating herself, she can educate patients on their oral health. She will continue to push herself and her team to be the best they can be so that the patients of James River Family Dentistry can benefit from her extensive knowledge and gentle care.
